Probenecid is a uricosuric agent that inhibits renal tubular reabsorption of urate, thereby increasing urinary excretion of uric acid. It is used in the management of chronic gout and hyperuricemia, and as a probenecid-antibiotic combination to boost and sustain plasma antibiotic levels.
